Australia stung by bee allegations - article in The Age (23-Jun-2010)

Federal regulators in the US say disease-carrying honeybees imported from Australia may be responsible for a mysterious disorder (CCD) that's decimated bee hives around America, and they may consider import restrictions if necessary.
Webmaster's comment: These allegations are not new; they have been made over a year ago. We should support the idea to stop sending healthy bees to the USA where they face certain death by Varroa within a short time.
Findings of the latest research on CCD done in Europe seem to reveal that monoculture is the likely cause for CCD, more than anything else. Our modern way of crop farming leads to bee malnutrition, weakening the immune system of our bees.

The COLOSS Project - In an attempt to fight Colony Collapse Disorder leading scientists, beekeepers and industry from 22 countries will collaborate with complementary approaches, to identify the factors at the individual honeybee and colony levels causing severe colony losses and investigate synergistic effects between them. This worldwide integrated approach will mitigate the detrimental impact of honeybee colony losses for beekeepers, agriculture and natural biodiversity.
